- A rare gem: The pods captivate with their elegant, almost porcelain-like appearance.
- Powerful aroma: It combines the extreme heat of a Habanero with a unique, slightly smoky and floral note.
- Visual highlight: In the garden, the pale fruits form a spectacular contrast to the dark green foliage.
Plant characteristics
The White Giant is a vigorous and robust plant that grows very bushy under good conditions:
- Growth habit: Typically grows bushy and vigorous. The plant tends to become very sturdy to support the heavy fruits.
- Height: Often reaches a height of 80 to 100 cm.
- Leaves: Large, oval and rich green leaves that form a dense canopy.
- Special feature: Like many white varieties, it requires plenty of light and warmth to develop its characteristic light colour without yellow spots.
The Fruit
The showpiece of this variety is the size and colour of the pods:
- Shape: Classic habanero shape, but significantly more robust and wider. The fruits can grow up to 5 cm long and almost as wide.
- Colour development: The pods ripen from a light green to a beautiful, glossy cream-white or light ivory.
- Texture: Thicker-walled and juicier than many other white chilli varieties.
Flavour & Heat Level
The Habanero White Giant belongs to the top tier of the heat scale.
- Heat level: 10 (Very hot). On the Scoville scale, it ranges from approx. 250,000 to 350,000 SHU. The heat is intense and long-lasting.
- Aroma: It possesses the typical tropical Habanero aroma, but has an almost perfumed, floral note in the finish and a hint of tart freshness that distinguishes it from red varieties.
Uses
Its colour and heat make it ideal for creative culinary experiments:
- White sauces: Perfect for making ‘White Hot Sauces’, combined with light-coloured ingredients such as onions, garlic or white peaches.
- Salsas: Gives salsas an extreme kick without significantly altering the colour of the dip.
- Drying: When dried and ground, it produces a very light, almost white chilli powder – a real rarity on the spice shelf.
